I completely forgot that I can create threads... Here are the questions I mentioned elsewhere. I was wondering about the forum and how you'd like to promote it. I know you started with invites, but then also posted about it on your blog... should we spread the word (on our own blogs for instance), or would you rather continue with invites? And: I've noticed that most sections are visible, whether you're logged in or not. I think this could be a problem when people want to post for critique snippets of work they later want to publish. Maybe members-only would be better for the writerly sections, except perhaps the chat, navigation and challenge parts? It depends on what you want and how widely visible you want to have it.

Excellent question and suggestion. Originally I had wanted to keep membership restricted just to try to keep out trolls, as they are, sooner or later, inevitable. But private invitations became cumbersome and we have registered members even now that have not posted anything so in order to liven things up, I decided to open up registration to anyone. I'd be very happy if you wanted to promote the forum on your site and mention it to anyone you think might enjoy posting here. I love diversity and if the occasional troll pops up, I can deal with that (although members often do a great job of policing their own too). As for restricting some sections of the forum from non-members, that's not a bad idea. Technically, the moment you publish any work, you establish copyright and that includes anything you post here, but I understand your concerns about someone "borrowing" your intellectual property. I'll play around with restricting certain sections and of course, I welcome input from other members. I want to do everything I can to make this place work for all of you, so keep the suggestions coming.

So I went ahead and restricted viewing access to all areas where original work might be posted to members only. You might want to test this out just to be sure it's working properly in case I missed something. Also, I enabled member invitations, which allows you to invite people directly from the forum, provided you know their email address. If you click on the Profile tab at the top, you'll see your profile with a "Friends" tab along the top. Click that. Next click on the "Invite Friends" tab to the right. You'll get a pop-up window that looks like this: Just put in the email(s) and click "Send Invite". You can also post a link to the forum on your blog or where ever. I appreciate the help.

I logged out and looked, and I can see the general topics and sections, but only three in the writing section (coffee shop, playground and bookstore). I think this is great, especially when we post for criticism. Publish or not, it certainly feels more comfortable to get feedback from members who know what we want to do here. Thank you! I don't know many people for the direct invite, but could contact a few through their blogs and also post a link on my blog. Or with a badge like this:

Sure. Love the badge. I guess I should put that on my page as well...lol. Nice work, Gabi.

And good idea about making some of the sections members-only; I definitely support that. Thanks, Chris!

I don't know the emails of most of my blogging friends, so I went ahead and posted an invitation on my blog. Hope to see some fun new faces, although I also hope it doesn't get TOO big. I like that there are few enough members that I can actually get to know them, and vice versa. This is a fun group you've put together, Chris!

You beat me to it. I'm so bad this month. I got nothing done. And I second the fun group. If only I had more time...
