Since we have no members (yet) from down under the equator, it's summertime for us all. What do you enjoy most about this time of year?
I spent 27 years in warm climates like Florida and Arizona, so summer was never a big deal for me. I preferred winter in those places as that's when the weather was the nicest, but now that I'm back in Wisconsin, I welcome the warm weather, green trees and singing birds with open and grateful arms.
Show off your descriptive writing skills. Describe a perfect summer moment for you.
Or if you want something slightly more modern:
Still not modern enough for you?

The lounge chair had the kind of cushion that molded itself to the contours of my body. I felt nearly weightless as I allowed my muscles to relax. Rivulets of water cascaded down the outside of the glass in my left hand. The hard lemonade was nearly half gone, but the ice cubes had barely melted.
The brim of my hat shaded my eyes from the warming rays of the early afternoon sun, which sparkled off the small rippling waves and cast a kaleidoscope of colors towards the beach. Slowly turning my head, I took in the idyllic scenery before me. The small lake was wreathed in green with only the occasional break in the circle from the few lake houses that dotted the shoreline. Birds of assorted varieties chirped from the woods behind me and the cicadas had already begun their mid-summer hum. A break in the water followed by a splash signaled that the fish were feeding, helping themselves to the abundance of small flies that had not yet found their way off the water.
Later this evening I'd sit on the end of the weathered dock, feet dangling in the cool water and fishing pole in hand and haul in a few perch or bluegills for dinner.
Far away from chaos of the city, my sanctuary nestled me in it's embrace, promising the tranquility that was not to be found among my fellow humans.
I love summertime.

This is an area where we differ because I loathe summertime. I live in NYC so summertime for us isn't like it is in Florida, let's say, but once the temperatures go above 75 degrees Fahrenheit, that's my cue to hole myself up in an air-conditioned room with snacks, tea, and my laptop until Autumn breezes by in its gorgeously breezy way. It's like reverse-hibernation LOL

Far away from chaos of the city, my sanctuary nestled me in it's embrace, promising the tranquility that was not to be found among my fellow humans. I love summertime. Through my bedroom window, I saw sharply dressed businesspeople in suits, the men with immaculate ties and the women with their pumps click-clacking on the concrete pavement. Kids in ponytails and too-big hand-me-down t-shirts ran by holding half-melted ice-cream cones, leaving a sticky trail of chocolate and vanilla that sizzled in the heat. I saw people seeking refuge from the boiling sun under the shades of trees and sipping cold teas and lemonades like their life depended on it. Through my window, I could see the air was muggy with heat, people wiping down brows with handkerchiefs already wet with sweat, and tempers barely held together under the vengeful gaze of the sun. Everyone was too hot, too sweaty, too grumpy. But me? With my feet tucked under me, typing away at my laptop as I people-watched, comfortably sipping on frozen hot chocolate as the air conditioner blew cool air around my room, this was how I spent my summers. While the city I loved trudged on, the sidewalks scalding enough to boil an egg, the sun's rays bouncing off every metallic surface and blinding any poor passerby who got caught in the reflections, I wrapped myself in an air-conditioned cocoon, waiting until Autumn made its way around again.

Nicely written, Jade! I've never experienced summer in New York so I'll take your word that it's best to wait out the smothering heat and wait for the crispness of autumn.

I am more of a winter person because I am not a great fan of heat! I will have to think about descriptive piece of writing :-) but my work in progress is calling at the moment!

Maybe one day you can trek over to this side of the country, although I personally feel like NYC is gorgeous in the Autumn and Winter, but you'd probably like the summer better here I am more of a winter person because I am not a great fan of heat! Woohoo, love meeting fellow Winter People I feel like we're in the minority, Angie lol

Maybe one day you can trek over to this side of the country, although I personally feel like NYC is gorgeous in the Autumn and Winter, but you'd probably like the summer better here Despite having spent the majority of my life in very warm climates, I'm not a big fan of the heat. My ideal temps range from about 60 degrees to about 75 degrees. (Fahrenheit) I like spring and autumn just fine and in Florida and Arizona those were my favorite seasons, but I hate winter and so now that the cold and snow and ice are gone, I'm enjoying a bit of the lazy days of summer. I've always wanted to visit the Big Apple. Someday...

What I love most about summertime are all the free concerts and plays in the parks around here, and the art shows too. I bring a couple of those low-back chairs and a picnic blanket and a big old picnic basket, and ta-da: perfect summer evening! My challenge is always finding people who want to go to the same concerts as I do. At least I have a good Shakespeare buddy, so she and I have a standing date for the four Shakespeare shows each summer. But who will go see jazz with me? Or blues? Or come dancing to 80s cover bands? Sigh...
