When it comes to writing, if in doubt about structure, grammar, etc. I will almost always turn to "The Elements of Style" before anything else. On occasion, I've used the "AP Style Manual" for things like AM/PM and dates. With this new purchase of "The Emotion Thesaurus", I can see that becoming another often used tome.
What book or books do you find indispensable while writing?

Interesting question. I don't think I have any books I use like that. When I'm writing, I usually have the Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus web pages open, and will refer to those, but there's no specific grammar or punctuation book or site I always use. If there's something I'm confused about, I usually check at least three sites (although I tend to prefer Grammar Girl) to make sure they're all giving me the same answer.

I don't use any style books either. Instead I find myself writing in the style of whatever book I have just finished. This can be a pain in the neck if you read several books while you are writing a draft!

To be clear, I do read craft books, but so far I don't tend to refer to them as I write. I'm more likely to be reading the craft book and then stop to take notes on my WIP or my ideas folder, based on the advice I just read.
