Guess what I just got? Business cards for me as a writer! I am so excited! They didn't come out exactly perfectly. There's a tiny green line at the bottom of the "back" side, so I must have gotten the photo just a teensy bit off. And the design on the front could probably match the photo on the back better. But WHO CARES, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL! I just wish I had thought to order these earlier, so I would have had them at the science fiction / future directions of science workshop I went to last week. Now I can't wait for a chance to hand them to someone the next time they ask about my blog. HERE IT IS!!! Wow, I would totally recommend this to any of you. It is a serious rush. A hundred of these bad boys for just $22, too, including tax and shipping: whadda bargain!

They're awesome! I think you've solved our dilemma as to when one can honestly call themselves a writer - When you get your own business cards that say you are! And of course the old axiom is still true: The most expensive business card is the one not given out.

The secret is that NOBODY CHECKS if you're "really" a writer. They just let you go ahead and put in on your card. (hehehehe)
OMG this is so exciting, I can't concentrate on my work!

Ooh, those look cool!
I really need to update my business cards. I've got really old ones, which don't even include the URL to my blog...

The URL to my blog is the main thing I wanted to include. Now whenever anyone shows the SLIGHTEST interest in my writing or my blog, I can hand them a card. It certainly looks so much more professional than handing them my regular work business card and trying to write my blog name on it.
How exciting for you that you had writer cards at all, Felicia, wow! This is the first time for me, so it feels like a big step in making this all REAL. Not that it wasn't real before. But now it's more -- Watch out, I am NOT messing around here!

Exactly! It feels slightly unprepared if you have to write the URL to your blog on each business card you hand out separately.
I actually got business cards for christmas a couple of years ago, as a sort of motivational thumbs-up from my parents. Though, like I said, they're missing the blog name, so right now they just have normal contact info (address/email), so I've been wanting to get new ones for a while!
It really does make it feel real though - handing out that business card. Probably because it makes it look so much more professional!

The trick is going to be to give them to people who have NOT heard me raving about them all day today, where I can be all super cool casual about it. (Casual voice) Oh yes, here's my card, of course...

Definitely! And when someone gives you their card, you can act all professional and hand them your card in return.

I am planning on getting some made but I need to work out what kind of picture I would like on there. But yours look amazing :-)
The best thing that ever happened to me was getting two short stories published in anthologies because as soon as that happened I could let myself be known as an author!

Oh yeah, Joy, I haven't said so, but I agree with Angie: your cards do look amazing!

I mean, I've had business cards for my job for forever, so I'm always exchanging those at conferences and trips and such, but never in my capacity as a WRITER. Whee!

Finding a picture was easy for me -- well, not considering all the time and effort it took to find that original photo to head my blog in the first place. I think I searched through every single travel photo I have ever taken! But yes, if I didn't have that image already associated with my blog/work, I'm not sure where I'd even start. At GotPrint they have a whole bunch of images in their stock pile, like the one I used for the "front" where contact info is. But if I remember, some of them could be used for the back too. And I didn't wait until I got anything published - but then, I'm saying "writer" not "author", there's a distinction, you could say.

I have no idea how helpful it will be in the long run, but BOY it makes me feel good in the short run! And I would say that anything that makes you feel more confident and appear more professional has got to be helpful.
