Chris,
Thanks for including me. I'm not quite sure how to navigate this forum. I wonder where this post will appear!
Anyway, glad to be here. I'm working on a third draft of the short story I started in class, I will submit once that's done (and given how sick my kids have been this winter, that might not be for a few more months).
I'm interested in seeing how this works out. I recently tried to form a local writing group, with some friends. It was a total disaster! I'm still using a former-teacher to review my stuff, his feedback is great. He's honest about what sucks, but also lets me have my own voice. I'm hoping to get better at giving useful feedback with more practice.
Are we going to follow the Gotham rules?

Hi Desi and Welcome! I'm sure you'll figure out the navigation pretty quickly and if you have any questions, you can PM (Private Message) me on the board. Just click on my name in a post and it will take you to my profile and from there you should see a button that says "Send Message". Or just make a post in General Discussion and ask (How the heck do I...?) lol I look forward to seeing another version of your story (and many others). As for writing groups, they can be tricky. I joined one in Phoenix (Two actually) and went to a few meetings, which was fun, but they can be a fickle gathering. I figured this would be a nice way to bring writers from across the world together without leaving the comfort of home (I really need my coffee when I write!) As far as rules, I've posted the basics in the Forum Rules section but if you're referring to critiquing stories, I think I'll leave it up to each person's discretion. I like the idea of giving two positives and two constructive suggestions but that's not written in stone. If you really love a piece and want to just gush all over it, go right ahead. I'm sure the author will LOVE that! Once you get to know the other members a bit better, critique as you feel comfortable. Ok then, you've taken the first step. Now, go play in the forum, meet wonderful new people, make friends, learn stuff and have fun! Please. ~V

Hi Desi!
I'm not sure how to navigate this forum either. I figure I'll just post in random places and Chris will send me to the corner if I mess it up too badly. I hope we can all talk more about writing groups because BOY, I have had some ups and downs with those! If you have even one person who's a reliable critique partner, cherish him.
I'm resisting looking up what Gotham rules are because I want to keep imagining they have something to do with Batman, and my writing experience has so far had not nearly enough to do with Batman.

Hello Desi, I like the Batman rules. I've never been in a critique group, but have a beta reader and posted fan fiction on moderated archives--and they are very tough, and each one uses their own style, so I'm rather hardened for very tough criticism.

Those people who give critique on fanfiction can be completely ruthless! Did you belong to Mibba?
