No, that's not really meant to be philosophical. My name is Chris Wood and I currently reside in the very fickle state of Wisconsin in the USA. (If you don't know what I mean about "fickle" spend a few days here and try to guess what the weather will be like) In addition to the frozen tundra, I've lived in Florida and Arizona. I'm 48, divorced and the father of two fantastic young men. My oldest son, Alex is also testing his writing skills and my youngest, Erik is serving his country in the USMC. I'm very proud of both of them. I tend to be rather opinionated but I'm always open to listening to other points of view. If we debate, I'll be respectful and back up my points with facts and reason (or at least I'll try and if I can't, I'm great at faking it. ) I've pretended to be a writer for most of my adult life. About a year ago, I decided to quit playing one on tv and do it for real (That's a metaphor. I'm not an actor) It's a strange thing, stepping into a dream. We usually only visit those places in our head while sleeping or waiting at the DMV. I had always huddled in the safety of fantasy because there is no failure in my imagination. In the real world, there is disappointment and pain and I hadn't been ready to face that. A desperate leap of faith changed my life. I essentially had a nervous breakdown, quit my job and started a blog. Probably not the greatest plan for success but I decided to go all in. So now here I am, a little over a year later. I have two blogs, lots of stories, nothing published and I just started this forum. You guessed it. I have NO idea what I'm doing. As soon as I get the instructions for life that I ordered on Amazon, I should be ok. Until then, I'm winging it and trying to have fun. Questions? The Well of FictionDumasaphobic Diatribes

Hey Chris, I have no idea what I'm doing either. WHEEE! Pass on those instructions when they arrive from Amazon. Until then, my new plan is to aspire to, "I'm not a writer, but I play one on TV."

I'm not sure about the quality of those instructions. They're from the Acme Company, the same that provides the Coyote with all of his accoutrements, so... we'll see.

Hello Chris. I'm ten years older than you and still don't know what I'm doing, bwahahaha. You're doing great. I looked around your blog many times and always was in awe.

I've always enjoyed your work as well. I confess when I read stories from Friday Fictioneers, I cherry pick the bloggers first (those that I know won't disappoint) and your blog is one I always try to read. Speaking of that... I have a ton of stories to catch up on.

I do the same thing, Chris, pick the bloggers I know first. Although I also try to find a couple new ones every time too. Most times I actually read ALL of them. Because that's how I roll. ;-) I've given up on this latest Friday Fictioneers -- way too many!

Doesn't work if you include the "nose". Got it.

Then I comment at Rochelle's and then reply to the ones who comment on my story. Then I pick people I know. Then I read as much of the rest as I can. I try to always comment on the late-comers posts, because they usually get few comments. But I'm not commenting on all I read any longer. When someone never comments on my stories, I stop commenting on theirs after a while. And if someone throws their political or religious views in my face, I rather keep quiet, because I tend to get ranty quickly... Doesn't work if you include the "nose". Got it. Yep, I learned that too...lol. When you reply through the quotes--sadly not in the quick reply thing--you have a button with smilies and other helpful tools up in the menu bar.

How do you get two quotes in the same post? Argh! If I hit the "quote" button on your post, it starts a new post with your entire post included. If I'm partway through a post (like I am now -- or like I would be if I'd already quoted someone -- if I hit "quote" it just starts a new post, it doesn't add it in here. It doesn't matter if I select the text I want to quote or not. GRR!
So now that I've started this, I can't figure out how to include a quote from your post... re: reading others. I never read the other stories before I write my own -- I figure that I'm not sure I'll have enough time to write my own story, and that should come first. I should post it as soon as I can, I mean.
Oh wait, there were a couple of times I did, when I had NO idea what the picture was supposed to be of, and was hoping that reading the other stories would clue me in. That was after I did the one with the bridge and the shoes sitting in the road, and I thought the shoes were a bag because I hadn't read the other stories first.

Joy, I found an easier solution to multiple quotes. I posted a video in the Basic Forum Navigation and Post Anything threads.
