Airbnb harms our hospitality. Airbnb is a threat to hotels. Airbnb has given illegal establishments the opportunity to circumvent the law. There are many criticisms leveled at Airbnb by Italian hoteliers. But for now it was just talk. Now it is Airbnb itself that reveals all the numbers of its business to Italians . There are 83,300 Italian hosts How much does this business really impact on total Italian tourism? We tried to do the math to clarify our ideas and compared the Airbnb data with those of Italian accommodation facilities.
The report, created in collaboration with Denmark Phone Number Sociometrics and published on Issuu , reveals that in the last year there were 83,300 Italians who used their first or second home to host tourists, earning on average 2,300 euros per year with exceptions of the case: in Florence the average annual earnings are 6,300 euros, in Rome 5,500 euros, in Milan 2,700 euros. Each advertisement generated an average of 26 nights of overnight stay per year , except in Florence, where the annual average reaches 64 nights and Rome where it reaches 50.
Italian Airbnb hosts in most cases occasionally rent out their accommodation during the year, thus obtaining additional, modest, but still important income to make ends meet,” the document reports. If we calculate that for each host there are on average 1-2 advertisements , in total we will have from 84,000 to over 160,000 accommodations . An offer that is certainly superior to that of the hotel (33,290) and non-hotel facilities (125,122) surveyed by ENIT . In this image you can see the comparison between Airbnb accommodation and hotels in Florence: Only 7% of tourists choose Airbnb If the Airbnb offer appears broad and widespread throughout Italy, the report suggests that the majority of travelers still choose traditional accommodation. TRAVELERS: 3.
